Molloy Consulting Engineers Ltd. will be taking part in the upcoming Institution of Lighting Professionals (ILP) Irish Region CPD & Social Event, taking place on 21 May 2026 at the Old Ground Hotel in Ennis, Co. Clare.

This year’s event is being hosted by James Molloy, Director of Molloy Consulting Engineers Ltd. and incoming Chair of the ILP Irish Region.

It’s a date that’s become a regular fixture for anyone working in public lighting—whether that’s local authorities, consultants or contractors—and it’s always a good chance to step back from the day-to-day and catch up on what’s happening across the industry.

The CPD sessions this year are centred around two areas that are coming up more and more in projects: ecology and asset data management.

Pat Neville from Electric Skyline Limited will be speaking about protecting dark skies.

There’s been a clear shift in recent years towards designing schemes that don’t just meet lighting standards, but also take account of their wider environmental impact. That means thinking about things like light spill, colour temperature, and how installations sit within more sensitive landscapes.

It’s something most of us are dealing with regularly now, so it should be a useful and practical session.

We’ll also have Brian Higgins and David Lordan from Cork City Council presenting on a tool they’ve developed around the Unmetered Register (UMR).

For anyone involved in public lighting, the UMR—managed by ESB Networks—is a key part of how assets are tracked and billed, but it can be awkward enough to keep up to date in practice.

The idea behind this tool is to make that process a bit more straightforward, particularly when dealing with changes between design, installation and ongoing maintenance. It should be of interest to anyone working with large asset inventories.

After the CPD sessions, it’s the usual format:

  • Lunch and a chance to catch up
  • Option of golf or a walking tour in the afternoon
  • Dinner, drinks and a bit of music in the evening

It’s always a good opportunity to meet people from across the sector in a more relaxed setting.

The Old Ground Hotel is right in the centre of Ennis:

  • Around 15 minutes from Shannon Airport
  • Regular direct bus services from Dublin
  • Other nearby accommodation options include The Temple Gate Hotel and The Queens Hotel, both within walking distance

For anyone travelling over, it’s also a handy base if you want to make a weekend of it and explore places like the Burren or further down towards Kerry.
